![]() By Paul C. Kelbaugh on January 18, 2014 Format: Paperback Robert Ludlum hooked me years ago because he wrote like an "insider" who had walked the talk. Apparently he wasn't, but he made a believer out of me. Now along comes Lawrence Miller and he has done the same thing. He writes like an insider. He gets so many little things right as he paints this novel of intrigue. I recall reading once that the Central Intelligence Agency invited Tom Clancy to travel to Langley after "The Hunt for Red October" was published, in an effort to find out where Clancy was getting his information. Miller may be getting a similar phone call. "Abaddon Rising" indeed reads like the first book in a trilogy, just like his beloved "Lord of the Rings" which it is clear Lawrence Miller has more than a nodding acquaintance with. My advice is to read this book, savoring the expectation that books two and three will follow. It is all really THAT good. Comment Was this review helpful to you?
